Airrex7 Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 Hi, 2003 2.3 Galaxy Two problems, when I use the car first thing some times the digital speedo is blank, nothing showing, most other times it works just fine any ideas why this might be? Next when the digital speedo is working there is a tiny number 2 displayed, what is this, what does it indicate? Quote
johnswlondon Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 i have experienced similar problems on other cars and it is usually a blown fuse.what happens is that when one of the fuses blows it causes malfunctions of other dash display items eg rev counter, lcd readout or even indicators.if not a fuse then a relay.sometimes fuses look ok but change them anyway Quote
mumof4 Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 the tiny number two means that the display is on its second display setting..(if them the right words..)..try pushing a button to see if it changes to number 1. Quote
Smilge Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 I didn't know they did digital speedos ....... are you talking about the FIS display between the the two analogue instruments? Quote
Airrex7 Posted September 5, 2007 Author Report Posted September 5, 2007 (edited) Sorry for my delay in answering, I didn't get a notification, I know this happens, thank you for the replies., I find the new layout a little strange to what I'm use to, I'll get use to it. Mum of 4, thank you, when you say push a button, what button and why 2 display settings? Bleeno, you are right, they don't, what does FIS mean? it's certainly between both analogue instruments. If not covered elsewhere, why does the FIS remain blank sometimes, even when the car is moving, any ideas? Edited September 5, 2007 by Airrex7 Quote
seatkid Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 (edited) Is it just me or am I have oroblems understanding people nowadays? Please don't take offence but......RTFM as they say on lesser forums! :16: Edited September 5, 2007 by seatkid Quote
mumof4 Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 What does RTFM mean sk??? I know there have been a couple of posts lately that ive had to re-read a few times as they were more or less in text speak and well abbreviated..makes it so much harder to understand. Quote
insider Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 RTFM - Read The F******* Manual or, perhaps more politely, Read The Forum Mate?? Quote

Airrex7 Posted September 5, 2007 Author Report Posted September 5, 2007 Is it just me or am I have oroblems understanding people nowadays? Please don't take offence but......RTFM as they say on lesser forums! ;) Seat Kid, how could any one not be, it's meant to be so, your post is a bit like asking someone who doesn't know how to spell a word and telling them to look in a dictionary. Why can't you just as equally, if bothered or if you can, provide a link or links to the answers?, if they exist, has a better impact, surely as a member of this forum you would want to better the impact this forum has for others, you would want members to think well of you instead of you being led by the nose to explain yourself. I know your lack of understanding maybe be of a hindrance to you but instead of giving the impression to others you might be an arrogant pip squeek, (please no offence intended ), are you able to help me? insider Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 The FIS (Ford Information System?) display in the centre (black rectangle) should normally be blank during driving - it is where various warning lights would appear if there was a problem.Sorry, can't help with your other problem - I assume you mean the digital odometer (where the mileage is normally displayed)? Thank you Insider. The FIS is rarely blank on my vehicle when on the move, just sometimes and I thought this maybe a fault. I wish this forum would allow newbies to post photo's, it would resolve so much, however I can see it causing just as many problems. Quote

bogjam Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Is it the trip computer? If so the right hand stalk has several buttons on to cycle up and down through the options, average speed, trip time, distance, fuel consumption, average fuel consumption. Outside temperature displays as well. The computer has two memories so that one can be reset for a trip and one can just follow your average fuel etc over a longer time. There is a button to toggle between the two memories, that may be where the 1 and 2 come from... As for the problem where it blanks out it has happened to me on a few occasions and is proving to be intermittent, with the display working more often that not. Hope this helps. Quote

Hello Bogjam, it does, and thank you, I've had the vehicle for a year now, still know very little. I didn't realise that about the stalk, I'll look at that tomorow. Quote

NikpV Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 there is a button on the bottom of the right hand stalk this cycles between memories/displays 1 & 2 - holding it in resets the 2 displays IIRC, the rocker switch on the end cycles though instantaneous mpgaverage mpgdistance travelledtime of journeyaverage speed Sequence may not be competely correct, The number 2 display resets itself after about 2 hours but the number 1 display only resets when the button on the stalk is held in All a bit vague but I think its rooughly correct :( :) BTW I thought RTFM was read the fine manual :) Quote
big_kev Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 I have a scanned copy of the manual (mk1 but most will aplly to the mk2 ).
